Are you going to create a VMFA-542 “Flying Tigers” model? I was part of the advanced echelon that left MCAS El Toro, California to DaNang, Vietnam in March of 1965 aboard the Landing Ship Dock U.S.S. Alamo. I was an Aviation Fire Control Technician whose job it was to maintain the RADAR systems that controlled the Tigers Teeth.
My second and last tour in country was with the VMFA-214 “Black Knights” also not listed.
My final duty station before leaving the Corps was at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina with the VMFA-251 “Thunderbolts” also not listed.
Thanks for your message ! My plans is to include all the USMC fighter-attack squadrons with at least one profile. I can´t say for sure which ones is up next, but i´ll be doing a profile of all the three squadrons you mentioned. There´s just so many paint schemes to choose from, and so little time 🙂 Thanks again for your message. I hope you´ll return to my site !
Please note the Black Knights were VMFA-314, not 214 which must be a typo. 214 at the time was a A-4 Skyhawk squadron at the time.
Thats right James ! I think Frank correcting himself in another message 😉
Sorry for the typo I meant VMFA-314 not 214
My first squadron, 1969-1971.
Thanks for your comment ! Looks like i better get a profile done with a F-4 from that period 😉
