With the FJ-4B Fury finally complete, I couldn´t resist putting it in to a scene. This piece depicts a flight of two FJ-4B Furies of VA-63 "Fighting Redcocks" in 1959 while operating of USS Midway (CVA-41). With the completion of the FJ-4B Fury i now will be able to do lineage prints of a number of both Navy and Marine fighter and attack squadron...first one on the drawing board will be the Fighting Redcocks. Below is a few detail shots of the print, and below that a sales link. Hope you like it!
For an upcoming project regarding the history of the Red Lightnings, these three profiles have been completed: The F9F-2 Panther, the F9F-8 Cougar and the FJ-3 Fury, covering their years from 1952 to 1958. At this time the squadrons designation was VF-91. The squadron would later be equipped with Crusaders and in 1963 be redesignated to VF-194 "Red Lightnings". The squadron would later fly both Phantoms and Tomcats, and those will of cause be covered too, but at a later date. Below is the three VF-91 profiles that have just been added to the VF section. Hope you like them !

As the Panthers were phased out of service VF-154 began operating the FJ-3 Fury. With the introduction of the Fury VF-154 changed name to the Grand Slammers, as their previous name did no long suit the squadron with their new inventory. The Fury was introduced into fleet service in 1955 and VF-154 became one of the first squadrons to operate it. Soon after the introduction US navy standard colors were changed to gull grey, which was a better option at high altitude, but for a short while the Midnight blue Furys were operated...and it does look pretty good I think ;) Click the image below to be taken to the VF-154 section FJ-3 Fury, VF-154 "Grand Slammers", 1955
